DPhil topic

Through the use of discourse analysis, Kristy’s research focuses on how Chinese netizens interact with the neologism, baizuo (‘white left’), which is commonly used to criticise Western liberalism and its proponents in online discussions, particularly in relation to COVID-19 and recent social and political developments. Though her research focuses on China, her interests include concepts and expressions of identity, ethnicity and transnationalism in East Asia
