James Chanos, President of Kynikos Associates, New York, will be giving a lecture "The China Syndrome: Warning signs ahead for the global economy" in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building at St Hilda's College on Thursday 28 January 2010, between 6.30pm and 8pm.

James Chanos is the renowned American investor credited with first revealing Enron's underlying troubles and publicly declaring that Enron was the corporate version of the Emperor's New Clothes.  He now wonders whether the world view of China's economics may be importantly off the mark, which will have major repercussions for the global economy.  As China is playing an increasingly central role on the world's economic and political stage, an opportunity to hear and query a person with informed views on that country's financial affairs will be a fascinating lecture for anyone interested in nation scale economics and international affairs.
